Something we do a lot in the oilfield when lifting weird stuff is use a come-a-long as one leg of the rigging (usually the longer/lighter side). Then you can easily adjust it in the air to hang perfectly level

I just said exactly the same thing.. I said chain-fall though.. Chain-fall is supposed to be used for vertical and it is easier to adjust since it has a chain to make adjustments. I'm thinking you meant to say chain-fall though. Come-along is just a handle that you can haul on.

One tip for doing those lifts. Get yourself a small chainfall. Once you get it close you can adjust the rest with the chainfall to get it bang on. Then as long as you lift in the same spot on each truss you'll always have a perfect lift. The only thing I'd do is you get yourself one sling that is a little long along with a small shackle and you put that on the chainfall side. If for some reason the chainfall fails that sling will stop the load from falling. We do that pretty often when installing piping to be able to make adjustments.

It's pretty amazing that you get as close as you do. The lumber the truss companies have to use is crap these days, I guess all the lumber we get anywhere is crap. I have sifted through thousands of bunks to find good lumber. My family was either carpenters or masons, I chose the bricks and honestly, over the last 400 years everything is sub standard, it takes a craftsmen to overcome the product. Years ago I had one of those tele handlers balanced on two wheels with my cheeks clinched hard enough I could have made a diamond! I was also within inches of power lines! It was almost surgical lowering the load to get it back down. I think I was 18 at the time and my dad was spotting me. He was clenched harder than I was! Keep up the good work and kudos for passing it down!

Over 15 years ago I helped build a hay barn of similar size but we used full length trusses and had a mobile crane for setting it. I was brung on to help set the trusses cause they needed an extra guy on the ground for rigging and running the tag line. The one side has a 60ft opening and one end with a 40ft opening. The farm wanted it so they could load hay onto trailers during inclement weather. It was for a large hay farm in the thumb of Michigan that sells hay that mostly gets shipped out of state. The Amish built another smaller barn that happened to get blown down during a storm. The company I worked for they did alot of work for farms, co-ops and factory's so they also did steel work.

Kyle I’m not sure you’ll see this comment but man you are a great guy and the best framing channel on RUclips in my opinion. Your work ethic reminds me of growing up swinging a hammer with my pawpaw and working hard and not making excuses. Hard to find these days! I’m getting ready to build my first ever post frame home myself. And certainly will lean on your vids and I think I can accomplish it, I build my house I live in now traditional stick frame, I’m exited to get going with post frame.
Thanks for your hard work and inspiration!

FYI your purloin bays through the center of the building don't need to all be perfectly lined up on ends, only the 2 end bays. We've strapped a full bunk of 18s with 4ft6" boards nailed on ends to keep bunk together when unstrapped laid on side many times; measure, Mark, drill, lift once. Jig system ok, keep bunk in 1 piece on edge, awesome!

One of your best videos although they are all good imo. Great to see you and your son working as a team accomplishing progress, safely and methodically. Your son has a great teacher. Hopefully the truss install will be shown in great detail.

Hey guys may I suggest you get the exterior sheathing or metal siding (whichever it is) installed immediately after setting the trusses. Every truss is a wind sail and a couple dozen become a big sail if the wind comes at that critical angle and catches every truss as it hits. I've seen 3 riding arena collapses in my 55 years working. All were framed with the trusses set, and all came down due to wind, including one I was a carpenter on in 1980 in Rosedale Alberta.
Great to see you two working together.
    Cheers 🇨🇦
